The Lanserhof near Innsbruck has transformed from being a rustic-style 1980s sports hotel into a futuristic looking health centre. Therefore an ambience was created that acts like an antidote against the sensory overload of everyday life. The concept is successful: more than 3,000 stressed visitors per year come here to indulge with all senses therapeutically as well as architecturally. Wellness oasis or temple are the promising catchwords for countless institutes that offer the balancing of body and soul. However, often candlelight and scents are used to gloss over a poor interior design. The Lanserhof, a centre for regeneration and preventative medicine, on the contrary has been awarded as Austria's best health centre, therapeutically as well as architecturally. The Lanser institution was founded in 1984, then it was located in a country-style Tyrolean sports hotel. In 2006, the director decided to exchange Alpine romance with a futuristic relaxation ambience. With soft forms, subtle coordinated colours, views to the landscape, and few materials reginadahmeningenhoven has created a soothing ambience. Spatial generosity is part of the concept: The new rooms expand on 1,500 square metres, with the single therapy areas forming islands in the space. A jointless epoxy resin floor links all rooms without thresholds and barriers. All pieces of furniture, a combination of Corian and Parapan, have been custom-designed: from the drinking fountain to the washbasins and the medical furnishings. Nothing has been left to chance.
Warm felt and Flokati cover the seating furniture in the waiting lounge and reception area. The panorama of the northern chain of alps symbolizing the genius loci has been imprinted on a 50-metre long, translucent wall, which separates the treatment rooms from the reception area. Further along, a large window offers a view to the real mountains, because the connection of interior and exterior is part of the architectural-therapeutic concept. The relaxing and modest light indirectly emerges from joint, slits and niches, thereby generating an almost sacral atmosphere. In the pool area, glass tesserae immerse the walls in various shades of blue, the colours of water.
