A journey through 9,000 years of history and stories about bread.
Anyone who is as committed to bread as Austrian Peter Augendopler and ponders about new bread ideas on a daily basis, wants to learn more about its history. This motivation established the foundation for the PANEUM collection of more than 15,000 objects, which has been formed over many years with great attention to detail starting with a little confectioner figurine made of Meissen porcelain. The PANEUM is also an architectural journey of discovery and bears the signature of Wolf D. Prix, CEO of COOP HIMMELB(L)AU, who is in charge for projects such as the BMW Welt in Munich and the European Central Bank. For the PANEUM library, the architect wanted an unusual centerpiece of furniture that would harmonize with the architecture of the entire complex – a bespoke writing desk. After a first sketch an initial meeting followed, in which the choice of material and feasibility were discussed. The original idea of an entire glass body was discarded a decision in favor of a fiberglass-reinforced concrete with an appropriate paint finish was made. Rosconi covered the tabletop completely with leather and Prof. Prix chose the chair ‘garcia’, designed by his long-time colleague Martin Mostböck, as matching chair model.
