Project description

Building Area:200sqm
Design Period: 2014—2015
Category: Interior Design

When books are no longer the only medium of knowledge dissemination, the significance of bookstores is also changing quietly. Reading-related lifestyle and multi-dimensional architectural space experience have complemented each other.

Under this background, the original 200 square meters, "ten" crossed, narrow and long space of ordinary frame beam-column structure has been transformed into a bookstore with three functions, reading, coffee and activities.

The multiple extensions of the traditional single function of the bookstore, as well as the texture and hierarchy of the new and old space of different scales, are the starting point of this design. Firstly, the space at the intersection of "ten" characters is used as the vertical traffic, and the space of two dimensions and different heights is linked together. At the same time, a small sandwich water bar space is embedded in the first floor to change the level and scale of the vertical height; this is also the origin of the name of the "half-storey" bookstore; while the partially retained concrete wall/beam is combined with the new steel structure, wood and iron mesh, which is interesting to the multi-dimensional space.

In this "book container", stories related to reading, lectures, sharing meetings, film shows and so on occur here, prolonging or shortening people's experience of time and space.
